Link to all weeks This week in Humanities, we will have our weekly Socratic Seminar and weekly word study (Habits of Mind). We are also excited to be hosting the teacher who will take over Humanities class during my leave. I will send out an email to families to formally introduce the new teacher, but in class, we'll do some team building and getting to know each other activities with her before we head to Thanksgiving break! Link to all weeks This week in Humanities, students will be revising and editing the final drafts of their Recuerdos poems. Final drafts are due on Friday. We will also spend time discussing and planning for our upcoming exhibition. Tutoring Tuesday and Wednesday 3:15-4. Link to all weeks Welcome to week 8! This week students will continue to study literary elements and devices through poetry. They will complete and critique the first drafts of their Recuerdos poems. We will have our Socratic Seminars Thursday and Word Study quiz Friday. Please be sure to review the email about our upcoming Exhibition. It will be held Friday 11/1 from 5-6:30pm at HTMCV. We will have our weekly word study quiz on Thursday this week because we do not have school on Friday. Tutoring will be available on Tuesday and Wednesday this week from 3:15-4. Link to all weeks Welcome to week 5! In Humanities this week, we will be digging into our project by reading and beginning to write our own poetry. We will have our weekly Socratic Seminars on Thursday and we will also begin our Weekly Word Study to learn and reinforce project vocabulary. Students will have a word study packet due on Wednesday and a short quiz to review the words on Friday. Tutoring will be available Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:15-4. Link to this week's materials
Link to all weeks Welcome to week 4! In Humanities this week, we will begin to brainstorm and write poetry for our Recuerdos project. We will also be taking the reading MAP assessment this week. Link to all weeks Welcome to week 3! In Humanities this week, we will continue to set up classroom norms and routines, including setting up our reader's and writer's notebooks, continuing to read our independent books in class, and having our second Socratic Seminar. We will also be launching our first project, Recuerdos, which is an art and humanities project that celebrates life through poetry, art, and a historical and cultural study of Día de los Muertos (on the syllabus this project is called Imprints of Life, but we had a change of heart on the name). Link to all weeks Welcome to week 2! I have loved getting to know your students so far! We had a great first week learning about each other and starting to set up our class norms and routines. This week, we will continue to build our class routines by having our first weekly Socratic Seminar discussion, which will be held on Thursday. This week, we will discuss Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset. At home, students should be reading their independent reading book for 30 minutes each night. In addition, please take some time to review and sign our humanities syllabus before Thursday 9/5. |
