Project Handout
This project focuses on exploring how young people have made positive changes in the world around them, and empowering our class to become positive changemakers, too. As an introduction to this project, our class read I Am Malala, the memoir of Malala Yousafzai. Students will now research and choose one young person who made a positive change in their community or in the world. Students will create a written piece of their choice inspired by that person. The purpose of this piece is to inspire others to create positive change. Throughout this process, we will work with a team of 6th grade students from High Tech Middle in Point Loma. Students will be paired with a critical friend to provide critique and support through email and Google Docs. The writing pieces from both teams of students will be published in a book that will designed and produced completely by students.
As part of this project, students will also be participating in Model United Nations. Each student will take on the perspective of a country and will participate in a mock debate about a global issue from that perspective. Students will be working with 10th graders from HTHCV who are also participating in Model UN at the high school level.
Please visit our Agent of Change Project Website from last year for more information and pictures. We will update this site as we move through the project this year.
