This week in Humanities, students will complete their country profile research papers. We will have peer and teacher critique and students will have time to work on revisions. Students will also create their country's webpage for our MUN website. In order to focus on project work and preparing for our upcoming exhibition, there will be no weekly word study or socratic seminars this week. Link to Weekly Materials
This week, we will write drafts of the country profile research papers. Students will put their country research into a formal MLA style writing piece. We will also discuss culture and begin to investigate the cultures in the countries students are studying. In Humanities this week, students will continue to research information about their assigned countries. We will specifically focus on geography and how to cite research sources using MLA format. Link to Class Blog Thank you all for your hard work during our Voices of Survival project and exhibition! This week, we will be launching our new project, Pinky & The Brain. In this project, we will join with Mr. Ko's class to work on the Trade War game. In Humanities, we will study the game (and the world in which we live) through the lenses of human nature, political systems, economic systems, and resources. We will spend the beginning of the week rehearsing and preparing for exhibition and the end of the week reflecting on our project. Link to Class Blog This week, project groups will finish writing their group spoken word pieces and begin rehearsing their performances for our upcoming exhibition. Our word study this week will be in a new format, and it will be a review of some of the literary devices we've studied during this project. Welcome back to school! This week, we will reconnect with our work and our community by focusing on the Habits of Heart (self-advocacy, unlimited potential, intellectual curiosity, cooperation, and integrity). These will serve as our weekly word study words for this week. Students will also collaborate with their project groups to fuse their individual spoken word poems into 1 group poem. We will send out a formal email about exhibition this week, but we have locked down Wednesday, January 30th for the Voices of Survival exhibition. We will host several performances during the school day and then a culminating evening performance at 6pm. We do not have a socratic seminar scheduled for this week, but we will resume our discussions next week. Link to Weekly Materials
This week, we will focus our time in Humanities on preparing for POLs. There is no weekly word study or socratic seminar this week, so students can focus on their POL. We look forward to seeing everyone this week! Link to Weekly Materials Folder
This week, students will continue to work with their Voices of Survival project groups to write their spoken word poetry. We hope to exhibit these performances in mid- January. Students will also have class time to continue preparing for their upcoming POLs. On Wednesday, we are excited to host author Tomi Adeyemi.
